Lots of new Projects

I have just read my last post from December 2008 and I really can't remember what secret project I was talking about in there. Probably some gift for someone.

So I am not going to whine about how sad it makes me when I see abandoned blogs and now it's happend to mine again and I shall never again do so. The thing is i have no idea if I will be sticking with posting or not. But let's surely hope so and time will tell.
Looking back, many things have changed. We have moved to another city. Our beloved cat passed away. She was old and we knew it was going to happen some day but we still miss her every single day. We have not gotten another cat.

Patchwork wise, I think practice has helped me getting somewhat better. I can now actually tell if a project is too difficult for me or doable. This is very nice and motivating.

One good example is this really nice quilt top I got at ebay and it had been started by some elder lady and she never got to finish it so her family placed it in ebay since nobody was interested in quilting. So I purchased it and when, after a long journey from the USA to Switzerland, I got it and instantly fell in love with it. It's called Tree of Life and must be from the 70s. Here's a picture of one corner. Since I didn't think I was going to be able to handapplique it, i started appliqueing it by machine. I have to say that my sewing machine has a really nice applique stitch. On first look you wouldn't think it isn't stitched by hand. Nevertheless, it wasn't going good at all and after several frustrating moments, I packed it nicely and kept it in a drawer, where I keep other UFOs.
And now comes the good part: This year, I have no idea why, I suddenly felt a strong urge to look at it again and when I did unpack it, I fell in love with it all over again. And this time I was more courageous: I tried and handstitched the tiny pieces. And it worked. Hello, Tree of Life. It might get me a lifetime to ever finish this, but you and I are <3.

So there's that. And remember this baby quilt? Well it's been delivered to my sister-in-law and she just threw it in some drawer and it was never seen again. Guess she didn't like it because it was handmade. She prefers (expensive) shop bought stuff. Oh well.
But the good thing is that meanwhile my lovely niece is big enough to terrorize her mother with what she wants to wear. And since she's into princess-stuff, I made her this dress. And she loved it right away. Lucky me, lucky my niece :-)

First Snow Of The Year

Tonight, we have had the first snow of this year. So here's our sweet Chilicat, cuddly as ever due to the cold, bad white "stuff" outside. Here she is on the very middle of my bed with no space left for me. But she definitely is doing the right thing it seems to me. Just wished I was allowed to hybernate like that as well!

Heute Nacht haben wir den ersten Schnee des Jahres gekriegt. Unsere liebe Chilikatze, anschmiegsam wie nie wegen dem kalten, bösen "Zeug" draussen. Hier liegt sie genau in der Mitte meines Betts, so dass ich keinen Platz mehr habe. Aber sie scheint definitiv das Richtige zu tun. Ich wünschte, auch ich dürfte so überwintern.

End of Summer

Last summer picture taken of my beloved Chilicat. The bush thing behind her reminds me of a throne and she definitely is queen in her garden. That day it was really very warm and looking at this picture makes me feel warm inside, too. Sadly, these times really seem to be over now and my poor Chilicat was found today in my bed below the sheets and depressed. The sky is grey-white and I wished I didn't have to face a busy day and could just join her to bed.

Das letzte Sommerfoto der geliebten Chilikatze. Das Buschding hinter ihr erinnert mich an einen Tron und sie ist ganz klar Königin. Als ich dieses Bild aufnahm, war es sehr warm und wenn ich es so betrachte, wird mir gleich wärmer. Leider scheinen diese Zeiten nun wirklich vorbei zu sein und die arme Chilikatze ward heute im Bett unter den Bettlaken deprimiert aufgefunden. Der Himmel ist grau-weiss und ich wünschte, ich müsste heute nicht so viele Dinge erledigen und einfach nur mit ihr unter die Laken schlüpfen. Aber ach!

Taking Chilicat to the Vet

So Chilicat had been not so good lately, which in her case meant that she wouldn't eat ALL of her food up. On the third day of almost not eating, I was concerned enough to make an appointment for her at the Vet the next day. Since she was still drinking lots of water, I didn't feel it was an emergency or such.
So I went to the Veterinary, made sure I got there EXACTLY on time so that she wouldn't have to wait too long in the waiting room. But my plan didn't work out as I had planned it: we had to wait for 20minutes. So Chilicat was whining and begging me to return home where everything was nice and cosy. But we had to wait.
Then it was finally our turn. The vet had a good look at her, listening to my concerns about her. Then said, she probably was having a sore throat and therefore he gave her a shot. I have to say that Chili is a good cat. She never bites or scratches at the vet's. She was a real brave girl and I was proud of her.
So after paying good money for some medicine I would be to give to her for 5 more days (!!!) I brought her back home.
When I let my poor little patient out of her carry bag, she'd just JUMP out of it and throw herself... RIGHT! onto her food and EAT!!! Isn't that just so typical?!

Chilikatze ging es letzthin nicht so gut, was bei ihr bedeutete, dass sie ihren Fressnapf nicht sofort gierig leeren würde.
Am dritten Tag, an dem sie fast nichts gegessen hatte, war ich genügend in Sorge um sie, einen Termin beim Tierarzt zu vereinbaren. Als Notfall allerdings habe ich die Situation nicht eingeschätzt, weil sie immer artig trank. Also ging ich zum Tierarzt mit grosser Sorgfalt, Punktpünktlich zu sein, um ihr die Wartezeit im Warteraum zu ersparen. Dieser Plan leider ging nicht auf. Wir mussten 20 Minuten lang warten und Chilikatze heulte und bettelte darum, wieder nach Hause gebracht zu werden, wo es schön und heimelig ist.
Schliesslich kamen wir an die Reihe und der Tierarzt untersuchte sie und hörte sich meinen Bericht an. Dann meinte er, sie habe eventuell Halsschmerzen und gab ihr eine Spritze. Dazu muss ich sagen, dass Chilikatze eine wirklich liebe und brave Katze ist. Kein Fauchen, Kratzen oder beissen beim Tierartz. Ich war richtig stolz auf sie. Und, nachdem ich eine gute Stange Geld bezahlt hatte, brachte ich sie nach Hause.
Angekommen, liess ich meine arme kleine Patientin, im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes, aus dem Sack und sie SPRANG heraus und stürzte sich... GENAU! auf ihren Futternapf und FRASS gierig! Ist das nicht typisch?!

I've been busy!

Ich war wirklich sehr fleissig die letzten Tage und habe weiter die schwarzen Ränder meinen schönen Blöckchen hinzugefügt. Dem aufmerksamen Betrachter wird nicht entgangen sein, dass meine Blöcke Seitenverkehrt sind von der Originalvorlage. So ist das immer bei mir. Schon beim letzten Applikations-BOM habe ich es geschafft, nicht zu merken, dass die uns die Vorlagen extra seitenverkehrt geben :-) Habe ich schon erwähnt, dass auch die schwarze Umrandung auf meinem Mist gewachsen ist? Ich dachte, das würde dem ganzen noch einen weiteren Touch "antik" verleihen.. zum guten Glück habe ich genügend schwarzen Faden!

Chilikatze geht es wunderbar, sie hat das super Wetter echt genossen und liegt jetzt gerade wieder draussen. Ich habe festgestellt, dass sie so ihre Lieblingsplätze hat auf dem Rasen und komischerweise gilbt das Gras aus auf diesen Stellen? Ist sie etwa für die Pflanzen zu schwer? Sie wiegt etwa 6.5 Kilos.


So here you can see how busy I have been lately stitching up all these lovely blocks. The attentive spectator will have noticed that my blocks are all mirrors of the original pattern. That's just the way it happens to me. This is now the second appliquee-BOM I'm doing "wrong". Every time I work with applique I always forget that they always give us the reversed pattern so we should have less work :-)
Have I mentionned already that also the black stitching is not original but my idea, hoping it would give the block an extra antique look. Gladly, I have enough black thread for all the blocks!
Chilicat is doing great. She has been enjoying our great wheather a lot and been laying outdoors in the grass a lot. She actually is too right now. I have noticed that she has certain spots in the grass where she likes to lay down. For some strange reason the grass there has turned yellow. I wonder why. Is she too heavy for the plants to bear? She weighs about 6.5 kilos.

Warm Weekend

Endlich ist es etwas wärmer geworden, juhu!

Ich wünschte, ich könnte ganz viele Nähblöcke vorweisen, jedoch war ich die letzten Tage (!) damit beschäftigt, etwas Ordung in meine Nähgefilde zu bringen. Das Tragische dabei ist, dass ich noch immer nicht komplett durch bin mit allem.

Beim umräumen sind mir dafür aber ein paar UFOs (UnFinished Object) in die Hände gekommen, die ich damals aus Frust- oder Unfähigkeitsgründen in die berüchtigten Tiefen meiner Schubladen verbannte. Nach der Bannfrist nun, habe ich so richtig Lust, an ihnen weiterzuarbeiten, oder gar zu beenden. Einige jedoch, mussten definitiv nochmals zurück in die Verbannung, sollen die doch da weiterschmorren!

Hier zur Unterhaltung noch ein Bild von Chilikatze, als ich mein brandneues Hellokitty Pijama MIR zum Schlafen zurechtlegte und nach fünf Minuten wiederkam. Sie lacht mich aus, oder?

So finally, it got warmer here!

I wished I could show off many newly sewn blocks but I have been busy tidying up my sewing room for the last few days (!). Tragically, I still am not through with it!
The nice thing is that I came across some UFOs that I now like again and am willing to finish them. Although, some of those UFOs had to go back to their drawers where they just seem to belong to right now. I'll finish them eventually.
For your amusement, I am posting a picture of Chilicat 5 minutes after I had nicely prepared my new hello kitty pijamas to go to bed.

Third block up!

Juhu! Habe nun heute Abend den dritten Block von insgesamt 36 (!) zu ende genäht. Sehr schön und jetzt heisst es warten, bis der Wonnemonat kommt. Seufz.

Chilikatze geht es weiterhin gut, das mit dem Malheur im Garten war sicher einem schlechten Bodenkrümel zuzuschreiben. Sie wartet bereits auf meinem Bett mit vorwurfsvollem Blick: "Wann kommst du endlich, ich bin schon den ganzen Tag müde!"

Jaja, ich komme schon!

Yes! I have now completed block #3 of a total of 36 blocks (!). Very nice and now I'll just have to try and be patient until the next one's online. Sigh.
Chilicat is doing just fine. That malheur that happened to her in the garden the other day certainly was due to a bad crumb off the floor. She's now already waiting for me to get to bed already, since she's had SUCH a busy day. -Allright, I'm coming!

Blocked!?

Ich habe, trotz schlechten Wetters, noch keine Zeit gefunden, den angekündigten dritten Block fertig zu nähen, aber angefangen habe ich bereits :-)

Der Chilikatze geht es soweit gut, sie hat sich gestern im Garten übergeben müssen. Ich habe die starke Vermutung, dass das mit ihrer neuesten Gewohnheit, auf dem Küchenboden nach heruntergefallenen Essenskrümeln zu suchen zu tun hat. Da hat wohl ein dummes Huhn ein schlechtes Korn gefunden! Nach dem Vorfall musste sie natürlich zünftig getröstet werden und ich hatte ziemliche Mühe, sie davon zu überzeugen, sich woanders hinzusetzen, da mir etwas vor ihr grauste irgendwie. Jetzt ist sie wieder sauber und gesund, ämmel bis zum nächsten Krümel.

I have, in spite of the bad wheather, still not found the time to finished the anounced third block. But I have started it :-)
Chilicat is doing fine. She just had to vomit in the garden yesterday. I am pretty sure that it had to do with her new habit. She is always searching for food crumbs that have fallen to the kitchen floor to eat. I guess she has found SOMETHING and eaten it. She felt she needed my comfort after she had been so sick and I had a pretty hard time convincing her that I didn't want her to sit on my lap right AFTER. Yuk! Now she's clean and healthy until she finds the next crumbs.

Still waiting

Hier mein gestriger Trost und heute wird sicherlich noch eines dazu kommen. Das Wetter heute nenn ich mal mittelmässig, denn die Hoffnung stirbt bekanntlich zuletzt.

Ich habe heute einen freien Tag (logisch: FREItag) und nutze ihn, all die liegengebliebenen Dinge zu erledigen. UND um noch ein Blöckchen zu nähen. Dann muss ich allerdings bis zum nächsten Monat warten :-(

Die Chilikatze hält wacker ihren Schlafstreik.

I have a day off today and I want to do all the things I set to "later". AND sew a lil block or so ;-)

Chilicat is on "sleep strike" again.

Springtime is obviously never going to happen

Ich fühle mich so, als ob es entweder für immer Winter oder es ist, wie letztes Jahr geschehen, mit einem Schlag heisser Sommer. Obwohl ich es letztes Jahr beängstigend fand, würde ich eine solche Wetteranomalie im Moment gerade begrüssen. Ich kämpfe wieder mit einer kleinen Erkältung, werde aber siegen, da bin ich mir fast sicher!

Ich habe ein neues Projekt beginnen müssen zwecks Frustabbau. Es ist ein Monatsblock (BOM=Block Of the Month). Das bedeutet, jeden Monat kommt ein neuer Block heraus und ihn anzufertigen hat man im Prinzip dann einen Monat Zeit, dann kommt der nächste. man könnte aber auch die Blöcke einfach sammeln und dann alles aufs Mal nähen. Ich habe mich für die erste Variante entschieden, da es mir gefällt, sich jeweils auf den Ersten jeden Monats zu freuen. Hier ist also das Projekt zu sehen und es ist vom Blog http://sentimentalstitches.net/ wer diesen Blog nicht kennt, sollte sich da mal etwas verweilen, es hat viele schöne Sächelchen, auch viele kostenlose Projekte. Nebenan ist also der erste von mir nachgenähte Block zu sehen. Ich freue mich, dass nun im April bereits der dritte Block draussen ist, da dies für mich bedeutet, dass ich noch zwei weitere Nähen kann bis im Mai, juhu!

Unerklärlicherweise ist die Chilikatze lieb wie selten sonst bei solch miesem Wetter: Pünktlich zur Schlafenszeit liegt sie auf dem Bett bereit mit Klappfüssen. Dann spielt sie fast jeden Abend mit Haarbändern und Sonstigem auf dem Bett herum. Dann schläft sie auch schon bald lammfromm ein mit leisem Gurren. Was für ein Wonneproppen!

I certainly do feel as if it was going to be winter forever. Or, maybe it's just gonna be like last year: all of a sudden it was hot summer. Although I was frightened about this (climate change and such) I think I would almost like such a phenomenon right now. I am trying my best fighting off another cold but I'll win!
I have had to start a new project in order to fight frustration. It is a block of the month project (BOM). That means that every month, a new block is out online and you have one month's time to complete it. Or you could just gather all blocks and them make them all at once. I have decided to go for the first possibility because I just love the idea of longing for the first day of a new month. You can have a look at this project here. It is from the great Blog http://sentimentalstitches.net/. If you don't know this blog, but please have a look at it because I am sure you'll be thrilled. So here, you can see block #1. Luckily, there are already three blocks out so I have 2 more blocks to sew for now, yeah!
For some reason, Chilicat is as sweet and cuddly as ever with this bad wheather: she's already ready (and punctual) for going to bed with retracted paws. Then, she will play almost every night with my hair ribbons and such on the bed and finally fall asleep while cooing silently. What a bliss!

Sunny almost Springtime

Soeben meine dritte Erkältung hinter mich gebracht diesen Winter!

Das Wetter ist nun noch kälter geworden aber noch immer sehr sonnig und das mildert die Umstände doch erheblich. Hier kann man unsere 14-jährige Chilikatze sehen. Sie ist so zufrieden mit der Sonne, dass sie sogar meiner Kameralinse ein Grinsen schenken mag.

Wheather is even colder but still pretty sunny and that is making the whole thing a little better. Here you can see our 14 years old Chilicat. She is so pleased with the sun shine that she even grins at my foto lense.
